13.8.08

so i just realized that i haven't written an update here in over a month. which is pretty slack, even for me. i have been working on a ton of projects: a handful of album cover designs, an art show in september, a munny design for niche market in noda and, of course, all the varied projects that come through neviah creative, where i spend the majority of my days. i have been updating the brand new adah design collective quite a bit, just trying to build up our content before we really try to push it out to the public in october.

went to atlanta this weekend with amanda, celebrated our anniversary. you probably wouldn't believe how many years if i told you. had a great time, stayed downtown in an aging westin (wouldn't recommend it, though the view from the 65th floor was nice) and did the georgia aquarium thing, which was amazing. 22 foot whale sharks...yes please. anyway, things are good.

oh yeah...i actually updated the monthly mix, quite a few days ago, but didn't have time to alert you to it here. my apologies.

5.7.08

the monthly mix, just in time for the heat. love that new Sigur Rós album, eh?

4.7.08

it never quite feels like the fourth of july if amanda+i aren't in campbellsville. ah well. maybe next year.

3.7.08

dave slaved through the dark veil of the night, working his way through the wilds of the southern tajikistan wastelands equipped with nothing more than night vision and an aging golden retriever at his side, but somehow he did it...the new adah design collective site is up. i think he did a great job. we'll be posting jungle missives weekly for your viewing pleasure.

2.7.08

just got back from nyc on a research trip for work. very helpful, to say the least. on sunday afternoon i went to MoMA and spent a couple hours there taking in the masters of abstraction. i remembered that they had an exhibit on mark rothko and ad reinhardt, so i spent quite a lot of time there. i guess i should move past rothko's work, but it's so captivating in comparison that i find myself always coming back. of course, i'm always amazed by early picasso and motherwell and kline and pollock and all the others, but i keep coming back to rothko. on the other hand, i'm finding myself very drawn to the conceptual work of guys like olafur eliasson. i guess there's more to say, but i'm so tired right now.

i should mention that i'm throwing another art show this year, nine.five.oheight...on, you guessed it, september 5th 2008 here in charlotte at the hart witzen gallery. i'm working with blake edward and stephan monteserin this year, which has been great. lovely lads, them. it's going to be good stuff so you should mark your calendar now. i'm serious.

one more thing: the old adah site is being renovated. i think you might like it.

19.6.08

the june mix is up. so much great summer music out there. santogold, ladytron, m83 and coldplay dressing up like my bloody valentine for a track.

30.5.08

congratulations to my brother peter for graduation high school, finally.

25.5.08

welcome, stetson duke to charlotte, nc

25.5.08

my friends were very sweet to me today. thanks to jm+say, the dukes, my wife + all my friends for making the day so good.

21.5.08

the how design conference was so nice. it was my first time so i appreciated the set up and speakers. joe duffy of Duffy+Partners and RISD's Skolos and Wedell were particularly interesting, among others.

but the best part was probably hanging out in Boston for a few days. i found myself spending my downtime taking the green line to the MFA to sketch rembrandt's work. they had a great exhibition of the spanish artist antonio lopez garcia and i bought a book on vieira da silva, a Portuguese/French expressionist of the 20th century. her work is amazing, especially from the late 60's until her death in 1992.

also met some cool folk in Boston, including shawn o'keefe an austin-based author/designer. we found that we both share a love for all things shoegaze. check out his band, the paper south.

13.5.08

really enjoying these pieces from DHNN (design has no name), an argentinian design firm. feels very post-graffiti surrealistic to me. the packaging they did for beck was amazing as well.

going to the how design conference in boston this saturday. looking forward to classes like "swiss in america: a sixties revolution that transformed american graphic design" and checking out radiohead finally with my best friends on the planet. the final encore was "paranoid android" followed by "the reckoner." more perfect? probably not...and their light show was the future.

3.5.08

the show went very well. sold a good number of paintings and still have a month to go. if you're in the charlotte, nc area, please stop by and check out my new work at the green rice gallery. it'll be up through the end of may.

my may mix is so up. i've thought about hooking it up with muxtape just for the cool factor. by the way, if anyone wants my artshow mix of shoegaze favorites i'll gladly oblige.

congrats to big brown on winning the derby this year.

15.4.08

talkin' new york. took amanda to manhattan. we had a glorious time. up to the guggenheim down to the les, soho, noho, chinatown, the village, midtown, central park, bryant park, seward park...

3.4.08

this month's mix is dedicated to my wife, amanda, since it's her birthday soon. so i put in a lot of raw indie rock and women and tracks you can dance to in there.

been commuting to work with my friend jacob lewis. he's a little curt, but quite talented. and ladies...he's quite a looker...

also, my friend stephen bailey's band, elevation just released their debut album on 50 records. amanda+i quite like the first single, razoreyes...

also, don't forget: 2 may 2008: my art show at the green rice gallery in noda. my canvaswork + dj khouri. you can't miss it. bring lots of money...

26.3.08

i've only tested my most recent redesign in firefox + safari...but whatever. if you want to see it right, go download firefox. it's free.

10.3.08

i've been painting a lot lately. and drawing skulls...you know, to keep the eye and hand sharp.

andrei prychodko told me that i have to get more power into my linework.

10.3.08

amanda thought that i should mention that the duke spirit is coming through charlotte with the black rebel motorcycle club next month at the visulite. and, yes, we got tickets. so boss.

redid my virb site. i'd redo my myspace site, but their code is the most annoying piece of mess i've ever seen. seriously, i think monkeys could've done a better job. speaking of better job, amanda believes that i could have done a much, much better job with my own website. she's probably right. i'll get the monkeys right on that.

1.3.08

not even a leap year could keep february from feeling like i blinked then missed it. what even happened in february? not sure. studying the grid lately and things that paul rand said. oh yeah...i spent nearly sleepless nites working on my may show and did a bunch of freelance work for this or that.

being march, i figured that i would go ahead and release this month's mix, much to the chagrin of my father who always gives me a hard time about it. why update the rest of my site when i can make a mix of new music i'm into? that's what i say.

14.2.08

seriously. february? already? crazy. here's this month's: mix. this month's theme: pop. noise pop, dark pop, 80's pop, a brit-pop band that got too cool to do pop in the late 90's, and the song of last summer that won a grammy; all topped off with an old, old gospel tune sung by hank williams.

still painting for my art show in may and got some decent seats for the radiohead show a week after my opening. i would call that nice to very nice.

25.1.08

well, my good friend and adah design compatriot, david bristow stanfield is moving on from neviah/steelroots where we've worked together for over a year and a half to cognition, a design firm over on central ave here in charlotte. though i'll miss seeing him all day, everyday it's a great move and i'm excited for him. adah is definitely still on as we're looking to expand past ten.five.ohseven and assorted projects of last year and move into some really interesting collaborative work.

dave+eric sat in the same room for 40+ hours a week for over 1.5 years. dave taught eric how to really use illustrator and eric taught dave the finer points of fingerboarding.

21.1.08

january. it's been cold. and finally some rain. been super busy, went to atlanta with amanda + did the ikea thing. hung out with old friends mike+susan o'brien and adam lee russell. it was amazing. my soul woke up. also, props to atlanta+the new urbanism thing.

been taking an art class with good friend brandon willett and it's been great so far. the teachers, andrei and amanda prychodko, are amazing artists in their own right. i have a lot to learn. my goal right now is to be an eternal student.

i've got a solo art show at the green rice gallery in NoDa here in charlotte in may. friday may 2 is the artist reception. you should go ahead and plan on being there...

3.1.08

just got back from a much needed rest in the rolling hills of central kentucky. have been exceedingly thankful for all the blessings that 2007 brought, and even the challenges. as 07 closes and 08 opens itself up to me, i feel alive again to possibility and grace. and a happy new year to all of you.

here's a new mix for a new year. cheers.
